When is the last time you swapped out your old toothbrush for a new one? If it’s been a while, you might want to head out immediately and buy a new one. According to a blog posted by the New Zealand Herald, the toothbrush you’ve been putting into your mouth every day is probably pretty gross. It lists the microorganisms that are likely on it, including feces and herpes.

But before you panic and vow never to brush your teeth again, there are steps your dentist in Woodinville will recommend so you can protect the cleanliness of your toothbrush—and protect your own health as well.

Replace Your Toothbrush Every Three Months

Make it a habit to switch out your old toothbrush for a new one every three months. And if you get sick, replace your toothbrush once you are well to avoid any possibility of re-contaminating yourself.

Don’t Flush Near Where You Brush

Every time you flush the toilet, there is the potential for germ droplets to fly all over your bathroom—and they can land on your tooth brush. Store your toothbrush away from the toilet. You can also close the lid before flushing to help minimize the potential for the spreading of germs.

Don’t Share Your Toothbrush

This is a no-brainer to keep germs from spreading. Don’t even share your brush with family members.

Store Your Toothbrush in the Upright Position

Keep your toothbrush outright and keep it on the counter rather than in a cabinet where air cannot circulate properly. Store it alone so it is not next to other toothbrushes, such as in a mug, so you can avoid cross-contamination.

Taking these steps to keep your toothbrush clean can help protect your oral health. Visiting your dentist in Woodinville twice each year for examinations and cleanings is another step. Call Woodin Creek Dental today to make an appointment!

In this blog entry I intend to highlight a few points which I believe will help you rein in the cost of dental care.

1. Prevention is the key
As the old saying goes - An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of care. ...

Welcome to our practice

Dear reader,

This is my first blog entry, so I think an introduction is in order. My name is Evan Chiang, and I'm a dentist at Woodin CreekDental Care Dental. Together with my good friend and business partner, Yogesh Goel, we seek to provide high quality dental care in a convenient, personalized way. We are truly honored to be members of the Woodinville community. This blog is an opportunity for me to express some of the thoughts that go on in the mind of a busy, everyday dentist "working in the trenches." There will be plenty of (hopefully!) interesting anecdotes that ...
